I have been to south Thailand,  and also as recent as April 2011, to Pattani and part of Songkla that is Muslim terrorised. 

I can confirm that:-

1)  There are daily stabbings, shootings and stabbings by Muslims against Buddhists 

     there,  but are not reported. 

 2)  Most Buddhists have moved away from neighborhoods that have Muslim population.  

     Moved to safer places such as Hatyai and Phattalung. 

 3)  Thai soldiers seem so hopeless against the terrorist!   Actually, they looked so lazy 

     and lazy and disinterested in their responsibilities.  What a shame!  


4)  Government has been trying to appease the Muslim population with lots and lots of 

     educational, economic and social aid,  but this has not worked because there are 

     a minority of them who just will not give up until they have a separate Muslim state 

     based on Shariah.  

 5)  Originally what was over exaggerated as 'Muslim majority' was actually on 30%  -  

     in Muslim eyes,  20% is already 'majority'.  But with continued violence and insecurity, 

     most Buddhists have moved away,  leaving the are more and more in Muslim hands.  


Live Leak - More than than 4000 people from police and teachers to monks and children have been killed in the past 7 years by Muslims in southern Thailand, but hardly a word in the mainstream media.

In Southern Thailand Muslim gunmen continue killing and threatening innocent citizens. The Muslim insurgents have threatened to kill 20 teachers and have distributed fliers that said, “WANTED: 20 Deaths of Buddhist teachers.” Muslim terrorists object to the education system which teaches Buddhist culture that is not acceptable in Islam.

 

The attacks are intended to force Buddhists to leave the region because Muslims want to create an independent Muslim nation in the three southern provinces.
