Victorian man dies in Laos

A 22-year-old Victorian backpacker has died in Laos.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the death and is understood to be giving consular help to the man's family.

However, DFAT has not revealed how the man died.

Two Australian backpackers have died in Laos in the past month.

Melbourne teen Daniel Eimutis, 19, was killed in a tubing accident in Vang Vieng two weeks ago.

He was found in a river three days after partaking in the extreme sport with friends.

His family paid an emotional tribute to the teen. "Daniel lived life to the fullest. At the time of his passing he had been having the time of his life doing the things he loved most - travelling with his mates, experiencing new cultures, meeting people and being by the water," they said.

"Tragically last Sunday night the sudden darkness in Vang Vieng turned what is by daylight a serene waterway in idyllic surrounds into a dangerous environment.

Sydney man Lee Hudswell, 26, was also killed while tubing in Vang Vieng.

Hudswell, from Cronulla in Sydney's south, was on holidays with friends in Laos when the accident happened.

His uncle, Ray Hudswell, told the ABC his nephew was riding on a flying fox when he either hit a tree or a rock and fell into a river below.

There was a search for him and he was found alive but died on the way to hospital.

Tubing is a hugely popular attraction in the Vang Vieng area and draws thousands each year.
