Found Dead Tubing in Laos River
Missing Melbourne man found dead
The body of a Victorian man who went missing while tubing in a Laos river has been recovered.
Australia's department of foreign affairs says the man's body was recovered and identified in the riverside town of Vang Vieng.
"A consular officer from the embassy in Vientiane travelled to Vang Vieng and is providing consular assistance to the man's family and his travelling companions," a DFAT spokesperson said.
The Herald Sun newspaper has named him as Daniel Eimutis, of Melbourne.
Mr Eimutis, 19, failed to return to his guesthouse after going tubing in Vang Vieng four days ago.
He is believed to have drowned.
The former Melbourne High student was on holidays with six friends when he disappeared on Monday night.
His disappearance sparked a frantic search by family and friends.
His Aunt, Anna Boundy, posted a message on Facebook last night saying he had drowned.
"My beautiful nephew’s body has been found. He drowned," she wrote.
"Thank you to everybody who helped in the search. We will post details of funeral when we know the details."
It could take up to two weeks for Mr Eimutis's body to be returned to Australia.
Mr Eimutis is the second Australian to die at the tourist spot this month.
New South Wales man Lee Hudswell died at Vang Vieng on January 10 after jumping from a tower and landing badly in the river.
