The wonders and DANGERS of bee propolis

:[1] The following is a summary:

Ø  It can damage your kidneys[2] This blog gives the following two documented cases of kidney failure from bee propolis as a side effect:

A report by Li from Hospital of Chang Gung Memorial in Taipei.[3] A 59 years old man suffered bile duct cancer. During a two week period, he consumed Brazilian bee propolis to help his cancer treatment. From that time, his kidney functions began to deteriorate. Further consumption was stopped and his renal functions improved. However, he then decided to take more bee propolis and his kidney functions worsened again. Again, he completely stopped taking the bee propolis and his renal functions went back to normal.

A report in a Canadia Adverse Reaction Newsletter.[4]  A three year old boy suffered for gluten enteropathy, a disorder in nutrients absorption caused by gluten allergy. He consumed bee propolis as a remedy for his condition. His consumption was about 2 – 3 times each week for 4 months. He started to suffer from acute renal failure.  That was shown by an excessive creatinine level. Right after he stopped bee propolis consumption, his creatinine level went back to normal.

Ø  It can create an effect which is “accountable for cancer disease”.[5]
Ø  It can cause cell Lysis [breaking down of a cell resulting in compromising its integrity] [6]
Ø  It can cause apoptosis. That’s a form of cell death. “When apoptosis does not work correctly, cells that should be eliminated may persist and become immortal, for example, in cancer and leukemia. When apoptosis works overly well, it kills too many cells and inflicts grave tissue damage. This is the case in strokes and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's, Huntington's, and Parkinson's diseases. Also known as programmed cell death and cell suicide.”[7]
Ø  It can even cause DNA to mutate.[8] Note, generally, many mutations cause cancer and “mutagens are therefore also likely to be carcinogens[9]
