DOG BITE INFECTION COSTS CANADIAN HER ARM, LEG

Christine Caron, 49, was playing with her pet dog when it accidentally ‘nicked’ one of her knuckles in a tug-o-war. Her three other dogs came over and licked the wound. Days later she fell into a coma. She awoke in hospital six weeks later. He doctors told her they had to amputate three of her limbs as the infection had spread.

The infections were caused by a bacteria (capnocytophaga canimorsus) commonly found in dog saliva. It rarely leads to human infection. AFP. The Sun, 24 July 2013
